Red Markets

Created by Caleb Stokes

Red Markets is a game of economic horror, where the world has ended and the rent is still due.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Le Corbusier Is Here
about 6 years ago – Fri, Nov 02, 2018 at 09:46:46 PM

Hello!

I'm happy to announce Le Corbusier is finally available. If you backed the Kickstarter, you can find the PDF waiting for download in your profile on Backerkit. I went for a Backerkit download because the files size is much smaller than our stretch goal audiobook, so no need to mess with coupons this time around.

If you missed out on the PDF stretch goals, our first adventure supplement can be purchased in Print or PDF at DTRPG. The core Red Markets PDF is also scheduled to be DTRPG's "Deal of the Day" starting at about 10 am, so it's a great time to catch up if you missed the Kickstarter! Of course, the main rule book is still available in print and retail through our friends at Indie Press Revolution. Le Corbusier should also be available for sale in PDF form on their website shortly.

Alright, that's all I had to say. On to the next one! As always, hit me up in the comments or DMs if you need anything.

Le Corbusier Proofs

Ohhhh. Paper. FANCY
Ohhhh. Paper. FANCY

Hello all,

Sorry for the long silence, but we're only updating when we have news nowadays. Le Corbusier, the first enclave supplement for Red Markets, is almost done. Kyle and Kat have one more round of my dumb typos to fix, then we re-upload the corrected files and wait for DTRPG to approve the new ones. Once they are approved, the supplement will be up for sale as a PDF on IPR and as PRINT + PDF at DTRPG. I'll be sending out digital copies as rewards through BackerKit.

As you can see, the supplement is looking good on the page (aside from my aforementioned dumb typos).

Other News

Ross Payton is currently hard at work on Trabajo, and I continue to work on polishing his Best Practices setting supplement. Both will likely need some more time on the editing table if only because I need to accrue some more sales to pay for the art. All the other supplements are also out for writing, and I'll get them when I get them.

On the convention front, Red Markets is doing well. We've had decent sales for every con I've attended thus far, and we absolutely killed it at GenCon. I want to take a moment to thank Adam and Laura again for organizing our play sessions at the biggest four days in gaming. It was a Herculean task that helped spread the word about the game, and I couldn't have done it without you.

Similarly, Red Markets fans have been great at fostering and maintaining an inclusive and fun community online. Whether it be the 10K Lakes Shared Setting, the countless AP podcasts, the Discord Server, or the Facebook page, I'm consistently impressed by how great you make my little game sound by being some of the nicest and most helpful people online. Keep it up! You make me proud.

Alright, that's all I have. I'll be sure to let everyone know when Le Corbusier lands in their inbox. Keep having fun out there, and thanks again for everything.

Performance Audiobook Released and ENNIE Nomination
over 6 years ago – Wed, Jul 11, 2018 at 07:32:50 PM

Hello! Lots of good news today!

If you bought the novel during the Kickstarter, you should have already received a message with instructions and a 100% discount code to download the audiobook from Drive-thru Fiction. People that upped their pledge on BackerKit received the same message.

(I apologize for making the distribution of the audiobook more complicated than just sending everyone the files. Backerkit has a hard cap on file size it will allow through digital distribution. Nineteen separate mp3 chapters definitely goes over their limit.)

I'm thrilled with the work Fae Kells did on the recording. It's a bizarre experience hearing someone read your novel back at you; even more so when they make it come alive in ways I never could have imagine. Fae did a fantastic job on Performance, and I think you'll all be thrilled with her work.

With that, the only outstanding rewards left from the Kickstarter are stretch goals. We're picking away at them as our post-shipping budget allows, but this thing is looking dangerously close to a finish line. I can hardly believe it. Thanks again to all of you that helped this dream come true.

Other Progress

Le Corbusier is done and edited. Chris has finished translating my shitty hand-drawn maps into something readable, and the text is currently in layout. We're just waiting on art now. I expect to have the whole supplement finished by the end of summer.

Writing contracts for the other supplements are out and budgeted. I'll edit them as their writers finish, and then I'll commission art as income allows. The shipping fiasco ate the stretch goal budget, so I can't promise a timetable. I'll commission the visual work once book sales allow me to. I don't want anyone working on credit.

ENNIE Nomination

Perhaps the most exciting news of all... Red Markets got nominated for an Ennie! In the category of BEST GAME, no less.

Never in a million years would I have thought my first RPG would get nominated for an Ennie, not to mention in a year with so many great games as competition. For the whole RM team, this is an honor beyond our wildest expectations. But it's an honor for the backers as well. Without your generous support, Red Markets wouldn't even exist: our big beautiful book owes a lot to this community. Thank you so much.

While I can't ask more than that, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that voting for the Ennies is open. If you are kind enough to want to throw even more support our way, the opportunity is but a few clicks away.

Remember (I can't believe I'm typing this), the category is BEST GAME.

Again, thank you so much for helping this dream come true. Have a great day, and, as always, hit me up if need anything.

Tons of Red Markets News and Releases
over 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 05, 2018 at 02:58:16 PM

Before we get to all the exciting Red Markets news, please check out our latest project, Party Fowl, on Kickstarter now. Hebanon Games needs more than one game to survive as a company. Party Fowl is approaching its first stretch goal and could really use your help. If you were holding off backing Hebanon's first board game, I’d really appreciate it if you gave it a look.

Check out Party Fowl here

Alright, on to the RPG stuff.

Red Markets at Conventions

I’m going to be running A LOT of Red Markets games over the next few months. Personally, I’ll be running a game at Origins from 10am-2pm on Thursday, June 14th. I’ll also be at the IGDN booth, selling Red Markets, Red Markets posters, and print copies of both the Quickstart Guide and Performance.

(I’ll be running Party Fowl demos from 2-4 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, as well)

At Fear the Con, I’ll be running Red Markets from 2-6 on Friday, June 22nd and from 9-1 Saturday, June 23rd. There will also be Party Fowl demos available.

And for Gencon, whoo-boy, we have a staggering 22 games of Red Markets scheduled! Most are already sold out! If you want tickets, be sure to grab them soon. The IGDN will also be selling Red Markets merch to anyone interested.

Which brings me to my next bit of news…

Le Corbusier Beta

SPOILER WARNING: If you are playing Red Markets at Origins, Fear the Con, or GenCon, do not read the Le Corbusier draft. We will be testing those jobs at the conventions and reading the packet early could spoil your experience.

I’ve finished drafting the first adventure supplement: Le Corbusier. Backers set to receive the final copy should receive a message through Kickstarter with a link to all the beta-version documents. I'll be sending those out after I post this update.

Though based on The Brutalists Actual Play series, all the jobs in this packet are original and never aired. We will adding art and sprucing up my crappy maps as the summer wears on, but the packet is playable right now for groups that won’t be attending our conventions this summer. While I’ve personally run every one of the jobs included multiple times, there’s always the possibility that something got lost in translation...or that it’s just riddled with typos. If you have feedback or proofreading marks, be sure to send them to [email protected].

We have other news regarding adventure supplements as well…

Quickstart Available in Print

SPOILER WARNING: If you are playing Red Markets at Gencon, I would again advise caution against reading the Quickstart Guide early. Don’t spoil your fun.

The Quickstart Guide and starter adventure put together by the talented Laura and Adam Briskin-Limehouse is available for POD at DTRPG. It’s another gorgeous effort by Kyle and Kat Carty, so I wanted to make sure there was an option for everyone that needed to get their paws on it.

Get the QuickStart Guide in print from DTRPG.

Finally, to finish off the print news…

Performance Available in Print

The audiobook is inbound, and everyone should already have their digital copy waiting in their BackerKit account. However, a lot of people prefer their books physical. I’ll be selling (and signing, when possible) print copies of Performance through the IGDN booth. If I won’t see you at conventions this summer though, you can get a dead-tree version through CreateSpace now.

Buy a print version here.

In Conclusion

Whew, that’s a lot for one update.

I want to end by saying thank you to everyone that has supported Red Markets. Your patience helps us ensure RM releases retain quality while steadily progressing. I also want to sincerely thank all of you that have supported Party Fowl and The Mixed Six Podcast. It means so much that so many of you are willing to support my other artistic endeavours as well as our little zombie game.

Hebanon Games Next Project
over 6 years ago – Tue, May 22, 2018 at 07:37:12 AM

This is the last post I will make to this effect, but if you don't already follow me as a creator on Kickstarter, I wanted to make sure everyone knew about Hebanon Games's latest project.

Our first board game, Party Fowl: The Game of Drunk Ducks, is now live on Kickstarter. Admittedly, the game has nothing to do with Red Markets ... aside from the fact that working on this lighter fare is what enabled me to continue progress with the heavy themes of our favorite RPG. If you like board games as well as RPGs, please give it a look. My dream is to one day make this company a staple at gaming conventions around the US. A wide and diverse catalogue of games is part of that securing that "have your own GenCon table" dream, and Party Fowl is a big step towards that for Hebanon Games.

Alright, I promise there won't be any more promotion in these updates; just more Red Markets stuff from here on in. I hope you all can forgive me this little plug; you gotta hustle out here to survive.
