Red Markets

Created by Caleb Stokes

Red Markets is a game of economic horror, where the world has ended and the rent is still due.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Fae’s Anatomy is LIVE!
almost 3 years ago – Sat, May 29, 2021 at 01:53:54 PM

It’s pretty different in tone from Red Markets, but Hebanon Games has a new project on Kickstarter: Fae’s Anatomy

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/faesanatomy/faes-anatomy-a-melodramatic-medical-mystery-rpg

Every RM product thus published is on sale as an add-on, so get caught up if you missed those goodies during the RM Kickstarter.

As for those who just want more RM content, we have three supplements — Carrion Economy, Best Practices, and The War Racket— edited and ready to go. The continued success of Hebanon is necessary to fund the art and layout of those products, so please consider spreading the word about Fae’s Anatomy anyway.

Thank you again for all the support!

Elevation Released!
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jul 19, 2019 at 02:04:43 AM

Hello everyone! I meant to release this at the same time as Veblen Goods and Trabajo, but the print proof wasn't up to my standards. Thankfully, we've made corrections and Elevation is ready to go!

Author Sean Farris has done a ton of hard work filling in the gaps he saw within the Red Markets community. The first was the gear catalogue, which served the players thirst for more stuff. I'm especially proud of what he has done with Elevation.

A complaint I commonly hear from new players is that they struggle writing a job line: a series of connected contracts that tell a larger story about the enclave, more akin to a traditional RPG campaign. Sean has done a fantastic job illustrating how to create an intriguing, varied set of adventures around a single organizing task that defines one group's corner of the setting. It's a fun supplement to read and to play, in addition to being a great example of what Red Markets can do in extended play. I'm psyched to have it as part of our catalogue.

Elevation is available for sale right now at DTRPG! https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/281587/Elevation-A-Red-Markets-Job-Line

P.S. So long as god and the postal service remain willing, we will have print copies of Elevation for sale at GenCon. We'll also be offering a 5-for 3-deal on supplements; $30 gets you any five of our supplemental releases, choosing from Veblen, Elevation, the QuickStart, Trabajo, Le Corbusier, and Performance.

Trabajo Released AND Veblen Goods For Sale
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jul 09, 2019 at 03:07:35 PM

Hey all! Good news!

The stretch goal Trabajo is available for all backers that got the PDF stretch goal rewards. Please check your Kickstarter messages for a link that should take you to DTRPG. There, you can download the adventure for free.

If you only upgraded to the Ubiq reward-level during the Backerkit campaign, you can find your link in your Backerkit email.

With that stretch goal done, it’s time we move beyond the remit of what was proscribed in the KS campaign. We’re still working on the few rewards we have left to deliver, but the generosity of backers and players have made Red Markets a thriving, living game system.

To that end, many players wanted expanded gear lists for their campaign play. Sean Farris and Matt Campen listened. I’m proud to announce the release of their supplement, Veblen Goods: A Red Markets Gear Guide. The guide contains new optional rules, weapons, tools, and vehicles. If you wanted to get more outlandish with the near-future setting of RM, this is the packet for you. It’s also available for sale today, so grab a PDF or Print copy while you’re over at DTRPG picking up your free Trabajo.

Both supplements will also be available in Print at the IGDN booth during GenCon. I’m over there a lot during the con, so I’ll be sure to sign anything you purchase in person.

What About Elevation?

Elevation, the second of the supplements added to the RM catalogue outside the original stretch goals, is also pretty much done. It’s a fantastic set of jobs that Sean has concocted, and I’m so excited to release it as our first of job line supplements. However, our last proof came back with some issues on the cover I can’t live with. Everyone’s work is too good, and it needs to be dressed in its finest. I’m not sure we are going to get the POD issue corrected before GenCon, so we decided to launch Trabajo and Veblen now. We’ll keep plugging away on getting Elevation just right, but I can only promise it will be out when it is ready.

Go Get Your Stuff!

That’s everything. As always, thank you so much for your support of Red Markets. We wouldn’t exist without you and your players. Let me know if you have any questions here in the comments or through a DM.

Three Red Markets Publications on the Way!
about 5 years ago – Fri, Apr 19, 2019 at 12:58:15 AM

Hello everyone! I’d apologize for the length between updates, but we’ve been working on big things over here.

Trabajo Next Month

First off, Ross Payton’s enclave supplement, Trabajo, is nearly done. Writing, editing, and layout are finished. All that is left to do is collect two more pieces of art and upload the files to the printer. The supplement, based in the enclave featured in the Fallen Flag AP, features new illustrations, an immersive enclave description, three new jobs, and a new aberrant to use in your games! We hope to have the PDF out to backers in May, and we’ll be running games of Trabajo at GenCon.

Announcing Veblen Goods

We also have some exciting news completely unrelated to the Kickstarter. My feelings towards gear lists are a matter of public record, so the likelihood of a Red Markets gear supplement was always slim despite the great demand. However, Sean Farris and Matt Campen weren’t ready to sit idle as players ran out of things to shop for. The two have written the Veblen Goods catalogue, a gear supplement for Red Markets. I’m happy to report that the two gentlemen have written a gear supplement I’d be proud to call my own...if I could ever motivate myself to write a gear supplement. They’ve been kind enough to cooperate with Hebanon Games to bring the catalogue into the world.

The contents include nine optional rules, 25 additional upgrades, and 68 new items available for conspicuous consumption. It’s got low-tech billhooks and high-tech exosuits, rules for gun jams and radiation poisoning, poor financial choices and worse financial choices — Veblen has something for everyone!

The best part is that Veblen Goods is edited, playtested, and complete with art. We’re just waiting on layout, and we hope to have it up for sale on DTRPG once Trabajo goes up.

Announcing Elevation

As if that wasn’t enough, Sean Farris is also a super-Market and ran something like six games of Red Markets last GenCon. Turns out he was playtesting a new enclave supplement called Elevation, and it is fantastic! Based out of a massive complex of grain silos in the midwestern plains, Elevation is the first enclave supplement for Red Markets to focus on a single job line: a series of interconnected contracts that stretch into an overarching narrative that form a campaign. In addition to painting a unique, interesting enclave, Elevation boasts four connected contracts that promise to alter the setting and a brand-new criminal gang Markets can use to plague the Loss.

Sean’s work is already written, edited, and complete with art. Much like Veblen, we’re making sure that Trabajo is done and out to backers before we put the new stuff up for sale on DTPRG.

Other Stretch Goals

That’s everything we have to announce in the near future. Kyle is still working on 80/20...when I don’t bury him under three layout assignments. Bridget is working on the replacement for the War rules that likely won’t be happening. Finally, I’m going to start getting Best Practices banged into shape once this current batch is out the door. Rest assured the stretch goals are still in progress, but our goal was always to continue Red Markets publication and support beyond the Kickstarter's fulfillment. Sean and Matt have done great work ensuring RM remains an ongoing, supported game line, and I’m excited to be working with them.
